We all want to have clear glowing skin on our wedding day and as professional wedding makeup artists we know how important pre wedding skin prep is to achieving this.  There are many amazing makeup products on the market that can help achieve a nice healthy glow but the truth is having a well put together skincare routine on the lead up to your big day will help your skin to glow from within and will also help your makeup artist get the best results on the day.

1) Invest time

The earlier you start the better your skin will be, ideally a year before but even a couple of months of making good skin care a habit will make a big difference and vastly improve your skins texture and radiance.

2) Water and Superfoods

2 litres of water a day is proven to reduce wrinkles, help clear unwanted spots and even make your eyes sparkle. Adding superfoods to your diet over time can help to significantly improve the quality of your skin. Super foods include things like blueberries which are packed full of antioxidants, oysters which are a great source of zinc and help renew and repair skin cells, also oily fish which is full of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids which are an essential role in skin texture and structure.

3) Visit a Dermatologist

If you are happy with your skin then you may want to skip this step but for any brides who have concerns such as acne, pigmentation, open pores, fine lines or redness a trip to your local dermatologist will work wonders. They will be able to treat these concerns with the use of topicals, acid peels, microdermabrasion and lasers.

4) SPF and Moisturiser

Everyone’s skin is completely different but we should all be wearing an SPF daily and using a good moisturiser that works for your skin type. Look for products with hyaluronic acid or ferulic acid which are fragrance free, both of these acids are excellent at maintaining moisture and water in the skin and will keep it hydrated.

5) DIY Facials and Massage

DIY home facials are so easy!  They are super relaxing, free and only take 5 minutes. If you can do them a couple of evenings a week you will be able to tone your facial muscles, tighten your complexion and reduce puffiness in the comfort of your own home. There are some brilliant step by step guides on YouTube for facial massage techniques, Lisa Eldridge’s video on this is a great starting point, she covers many techniques which you can adapt to your own skin needs.
