Your own shape and size can dictate the shape and size of your hat.

  •  If you are taller you should avoid tall hats and go for a hat with a wider brim, a brim wider than your face will balance it out.
  •  If you are smaller avoid big hats which can be overpowering and go for a hat with a smaller structure like a fascinator.
  •  If you are more curvaceous avoid small hats as they can make you appear bigger, opting for a larger hat will keep everything in proportion and can even slim you down…result!
  •  If you have a longer face try a hat which has movement and softens your face, something with feathers or jewels can help with this.
  •  If you have a square face try an asymmetrical hat or one that doesn’t cover your eyes, this way you can emphasise your eyes by drawing attention away from the jawline.
  • If you have a heart shaped face you are lucky as can you can wear any style…take your pick!
  • If you wear glasses choosing a hat with an up turned brim can really frame the face.

Choose the right colour for your hat and it could take years off you! It is essential to choose a colour that compliments your skin tone and not only your outfit.

  •  The colour of your hat will reflect onto your face so be careful with greens and blues if you are fair.
  •  Red/bright pink hats can also reflect onto the face, this can be great for a dull or olive complexions but do stay clear of these colours if you have a pink undertone or are prone flushing on cheeks!
  •  Green hats can give pale skin a greeny tinge so avoid wearing this colour unless you want to look unwell but they do look great on darker complexions.
  •  Light greys, creams and lilacs are wonderful on youthful skin but tend to wash out ladies over their 40s.

You will need to adapt your make up to your hat, make-up should compliment the hat and not overpower it.

    • Try a stronger eye shadow than you would normally go for in similar shades to your hat while keeping your lips neutral.
    • Even If you don’t like wearing eye shadow you will need to define the eyes little bit as they can get lost when wearing a hat, try popping on a pair of fluttery eyelashes as a simple way around this.
    • If your hat has a low brim don’t bother with over complicating your eye makeup, just apply a little eyeliner and lots of mascara as your eyes won’t really be visible. Instead enhance your lips and go for a bold lipstick.
